Sun, April 11, 9:30 to 10:30am EDT (9:30 to 10:30am EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Social and Emotional Learning Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

This mixed-method study examines one alternative high school’s ongoing work implementing schoolwide SEL. First, we explore this school’s multifaceted approach to SEL utilizing CASEL’s 10 indicators of effective schoolwide SEL as a guide to assess what is working and where improvement could be made. Initial analyses reveal that there are all ten of CASEL’s indicators present. The second part of this study examines quantitative data collected from the students and staff exploring their social and emotional competencies. Analyses between individual competencies and school-level climate indicators reveal that they are strongly associated, creating the foundation to support this school’s focus on schoolwide SEL to foster their students’ social and emotional development.
