Increasing attrition rates are affecting the quantity and quality of teacher human capital worldwide, posing threats to teaching practices and students’ learning outcomes. Vietnam is among few countries that have tuition waiver policy for students in teacher training programs, however, research on Vietnamese preservice teachers’ intention to teach in general and possible factors that may influence their intention to stay or exit the profession is still limited. The policy and context of Vietnam makes it a fertile environment to examine various factors in preservice teachers’ attrition and motivations. This paper reports some findings of an on-going dissertation research on factors that may influence the intention to become a teacher of Vietnamese pre-service teachers.
