Since there are millions of Chinese language learners in Confucius Institutes worldwide annually, it is crucial to know how well their Chinese teachers can do the job. Exploring teachers’ self-efficacy is one possible way to achieve this purpose in light of previous studies. Unfortunately, no self-efficacy scale was found specific to the context of teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages (TCSOL). Based on the previous studies and theoretical framework, by conducting Rasch analysis and cognitive interviews, this study established the scale to measure Chinese teachers’ self-efficacy, which can be used by the stakeholders in TCSOL for the purposes of research, training, recruiting and evaluation. This study is a starting point for guiding further researches in this field.
