ShiDe is similar to professional ethics of teacher. Employing a data from a survey on Chinese teacher’s key competencies (n=9057), this study examined the role of ShiDe in teachers’ professional development. The results of data modeling indicated that ShiDe had direct effects on teacher’s professional teaching (PT) and professional learning (PL), and PL directly affected PT. In addition, there were no rural-urban significant differences in direct effects between ShiDe, PL and PT. Findings suggest that teacher education should highly value ShiDe to upgrade pattern and moral practical wisdom for all teachers to be excellent. Teachers’ PL also needs enhancement through engaging teachers in reflective inquiry as self-directed learners and supporting them to be life-long learners.
