The COVID-19 viral pandemic has affected all facets of life, including schooling. In March 2020, schools were forced to cease face-to-face instruction and transition to emergency remote instruction. We surveyed teachers nationally (n = 328) between mid-March 2020 and early April 2020 to understand their experiences during this time in our history. Our findings suggest that teachers found all aspects of teaching to be more challenging during remote instruction. Teachers shared a range of experiences related to training opportunities and barriers to student learning, support for English Language Learners and students with special needs. We conclude with recommendations teachers gave us, including incorporating digital learning days in future school calendars.
