This study focuses on the Latinx student experience in online STEM education in California community colleges, which contributes to the literature on student efficacy and persistence in STEM following enrollment in online courses. This qualitative inquiry draws upon interviews, document analysis, instructional design, and a STEM education innovation technology group. All data sources were transcribed and coded for themes. Findings show that teaching pedagogy, learning community, content organization, and presentation affected the student experience and their future decisions regarding methods of engagement in future STEM courses. Implications of these results suggest that expenditures on Community College curriculum design and development in STEM education should be strongly supported and could significantly improve the student experience and persistence in STEM majors.
