Abstract

The present study aims to investigate the relationship between the emotion regulation and self-efficacy, by studying a group of middle school adolescents (N = 478; 37.9% female and 62.1% male). Two measures were adapted and standardized for data collection. Results of correlation analyses revealed relationships between various domains of adolescents’ emotion regulation strategies and their self-efficacy beliefs. For instance, reappraisal (one emotion regulation strategy), correlated positively with academic self-efficacy, a component of self-efficacy and important for learning and academic achievements (r = 0.32, p < .01). Moreover, correlations between emotion regulation strategies and academic achievements have been analyzed and further discussed. This study contributes to the systematic research on emotion regulation and self-efficacy in adolescence.
