Visuospatial Self-Efficacy (VSSE) Scale: A New Way to Approach the Development of Visuospatial Thinking

Abstract

The current paper investigates visuospatial (VS) thinking, a cornerstone of success in STEM fields, from a self-efficacy perspective. We propose the concept of Visuospatial Self-Efficacy (VSSE) as a critical part of VS competence and describe the development and validation of a new VSSE scale. The Exploratory Factor Analysis of the scale (n = 179) suggested a five-factor solution, and the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (n = 183) demonstrated a reasonable model fit to the data. Together with adequate internal consistency levels, these results demonstrate the validity of the scale and indicate its usability as a diagnostic and research tool in educational practice and research
