In proposing a framework in which to encourage the community of physical education teacher educators to redefine physical education teacher education (PETE) practices, we argue that, if we are to re-define PETE practices, we need to start by revisiting Zeichner’s (1983) paradigms at a programmatic level. We introduce the reader to the consideration that decisions made around the paradigms and the “blending” of paradigms across a programme may be essential to ensure pre-service teachers can prepare young people for the reality of their lives during and post-COVID-19. We developed a double pyramid model evidencing how more than one paradigm of teacher education could co-exists in a PETE programme.
