Proposing a New Critical Race Theory Course to Uproot Whiteness

• In Event: Toward Transforming a Teacher Education Program: Uprooting Whiteness, Replanting Seeds of Racial Justice and Equity

Abstract

In our efforts to transform the College of Education and university to focus a lens on racial justice in the academy I aimed to propose a new general education course, Introduction to Critical Race Theory. This effort was made as a response to students of color who wanted a course that would allow them to talk explicitly about race and their experiences. This paper will showcase the development and implementation of curricular changes along with lessons learned throughout the process.
