Sun, April 11, 10:40am to 12:10pm EDT (10:40am to 12:10pm EDT), Division A, Division A - Section 1 Paper and Symposium Sessions

Abstract

This research investigates the impact of school culture on the perceptions of the parents, and the leadership practices that created this culture. The research setting is a nonprofit school in a rural community that was established for a socially marginalized group of people. The participants in this study were leaders, teachers, and parents in a district near Giza in Egypt. This qualitative case study adopts the servant leader model integrated with the Competing Values Framework (CVF) as a theoretical framework. Triangulation is used through conducting interviews, focus groups, participant observations, and examining artifacts. The final results indicate a change occurring to the parental perceptions about education, and the reason behind this change was an empathetic leader.
