The Collaborative: Connecting Early-Stage Entrepreneurs With Researchers to Create Right-Sized Evaluations

Abstract

Inaugurated in 2019, the Collaborative is an innovative partnership between one of the nation’s earliest investors in education entrepreneurs and academic researchers. The Collaborative connects researchers with entrepreneurs to provide coaching around measurement, as well as peer review of program evaluation plans to support education entrepreneurs in rigorously testing ideas at a level that is appropriate to their stage of development. In the past year, the Collaborative has provided 46 teams of education entrepreneurs with over 300 hours of individualized feedback on their research plans. This paper will highlight key lessons we are learning as our partnership to develop innovative methods and approaches to evaluating new ideas to improve schooling matures.
