We aimed to explore the mediating effect of social identity on the relationship between optimism and Tibetan college students’ mental health in China. Participants comprised 680 Tibetan college students from four western Chinese universities. we used the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale, the Satisfaction with Life Scale, the Positive Affect Scale, and developed a tool to assess optimism. Results indicated that Tibetan college students’ optimism had a significant positive impact on their mental health. Additionally, social identity had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between optimism and mental health . Thus, social identity can affect the optimism of Tibetan college students in China to further improve mental health.
