Empirical studies highlight the importance of principals for school improvement in Germany and around the world. This longitudinal study investigates the effects of a PD program addressing principals’ self-reported skills that are related to school improvement. Participants report small to moderate changes of their leadership practices including skills in instructional improvement, staff development and supporting teacher collaboration. Principals with few years of experience report higher gains of their leadership practices than highly experienced principals. Implications for future research and professional development are discussed.
