"Emergency" Virtual Professional Learning for Preservice Teachers During COVID: Lessons From the Field

Fri, April 9, 10:40 to 11:40am EDT (10:40 to 11:40am EDT), Division K, Division K - Section 5 Poster Sessions

Abstract

In response to the COVID-19 school closures in K-12, a group of education partners in California collaborated to offer a statewide webinar series to support pre-service teachers as they worked to complete their clinical hour requirements. The webinars covered high-access strategies and methods to meet the requirements of their California Teacher Performance Assessments in virtual settings. This paper presents perceptions of pre-service teachers from all eight webinars from 281 participants, and in-depth interviews with 3 participants. Findings suggest that pre-service teachers were receptive to learning through webinars, their knowledge of the topics presented increased, and they would like more information about teaching English Language Learners, remote learning practices, Positive Behavior Intervention and Support, as well as Social Emotional Learning.
