To support Education faculty in empowering educational leaders to be change agents, the authors of this proposal are investigating the problem of the literature review in the EdD Dissertation in Practice. Using improvement science methodology, data have been gathered to understand this problem and its impact on the one large, urban, school of education. Three alumni focus groups, current student surveys, faculty design team observations, and artifact analysis are the primary sources of data. These data will inform the project’s next steps to develop a new design that teaches literature as a tool for educational change. Early results indicate the literature review is overwhelming and not useful to practitioners while cumbersome and time consuming for faculty.
