This paper is based on an assessment research project that aims to develop, test and evaluate a “score reporting mechanism”. The project aimed at communicating important assessment information more efficiently to university students with aid of learning analytics, and encouraging the use of the information to support their subsequent learning actions. The score reporting mechanism was implemented and embedded within the formal assessment designs in the participating courses. To make valid, timely and actionable assessment information more accessible, score reports are designed with visualizations to guide both instructors and students towards more informed teaching-and-learning decisions and actions. The students were also supported to show engagement with the instructor feedback and other assessment information that are often underused throughout the semester.
