Sat, April 10, 9:30 to 10:30am EDT (9:30 to 10:30am EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Second Language Research Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

Within the context of a project at a German university that intends to bridge digital gaps in German teacher education the author of this paper attempts to develop a model of digital (English as a) foreign language competences. This paper informs about the project and elaborates on the theoretical considerations on which the endeavor is based. It maps out the concepts, models, and political documents as well as empirical findings that such a model must consider within the German context and to which it must respond. The project thus aims to develop a model within a particular context that shall allow for adaptations that take into account other foci (e.g. foreign languages other than English) and other national contexts.
