Research has linked teachers who offer suggestions for improvement (SI) in their responses to video cases with higher student outcomes (Kersting et al., 2010). This study examines the characteristics of those teachers who offer SIs to understand more about them. Survey data and written responses to five classroom videos were collected from 133 teacher members of the Virtual Learning Community website. Data were analyzed using logistic regressions and qualitatively. Results indicated that teachers who give in-depth SIs are not as willing to change their teaching practices as are teachers who do not give in-depth SIs. Qualitative analyses revealed that choice of video plays an impact in how teachers give SIs. Examples of SIs are given and implications are discussed.
