With 63 countries and economies datasets from the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2012, the research questions centered on the universals and specifics of the contribution of mathematics self-efficacy, students’ opportunity to learn (OTL), and their interaction effects on math performance, also the role of OTL to mathematics self-efficacy. The present study confirms mathematics self-efficacy, student-level OTL, and school-level OTL have significant impacts on students’ math performance across and within various countries/districts; indicates an overall effect of mathematics self-efficacy to math performance varies between OTL levels (though patterns are country specific). To maximize the effect of self-efficacy on math performance, students need to be exposed enough knowledge/content; illustrates that OTL is a key predictor for improving mathematics self-efficacy.
