Resistance and Revolution: Using Primary Sources to Teach the History of Enslavement

Sat, April 10, 10:40am to 12:10pm EDT (10:40am to 12:10pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Teaching History Paper and Symposium Sessions

Abstract

Social studies classrooms tend to create an “illusion of inclusion” that fail to challenge Eurocentrism. Our lessons, however, attempt to examine the history of resistance to enslavement from the perspectives of those enslaved. This workshop will provide specific examples with strategies for incorporating primary sources into the classroom.
