Thu, April 8, 5:00 to 6:00pm EDT (5:00 to 6:00pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Adult Literacy and Adult Education Poster Sessions

Abstract

This research examines the use of a connected learning college program with refugee-background students. In an effort to understand the potential influence of the connected learning model may have on eliminating obstacles faced by refugee-background students, a multiple case study was conducted (Merriam, 1998) with six focal students enrolled in a connected learning college program. In this paper, we detail the format of the connected learning and the benefits reported by participants. We focus on three main benefits: flexibility, academic support, and acceleration. In light of the pandemic, connected learning programs may offer innovative approached to personalizing online learning, particularly for students who need additional support.
