This qualitative study explores Funds of Knowledge (FoK) of culturally diverse families during a short-term study abroad experience in Mexico. Although study abroad research has spotlighted the student experience and perspective, the knowledge of the host family in a homestay experience is missing. Homestays are a unique way to immerse in the everyday experiences of families in Mexico and gain perspectives on the culture within the home and community. Three major themes grounded in FoK emerged from the interview data with the host families: conviver/coexistence, reciprocity, and cultural resources. Implications for practice underscore the importance of engaging the host family in the education abroad program and acknowledging their FoK in the experiences of students.
