Evaluation of the Clinical Component of Teacher Education Programs

Abstract

This presentation will examine the landscape of clinical components of teacher education programs that are based in both schools and communities. The paper will highlight the different approaches to clinical education as well as their differing evaluation methods. Community experiences in clinical components of TPPs and the importance of clinical mentors will also be examined. In examining clinical education, the paper does an in-depth examination of several different programs, including California’s residency initiative, initiatives in Pennsylvania and Texas, and the Louisiana all-residency model. It will summarize best practices in clinical education and to recommend cost-effective evaluation measures for the clinical component of TPPs.
