Thu, April 8, 12:00 to 1:00pm EDT (12:00 to 1:00pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Research on the Education of Asian and Pacific Americans Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

This study explored distance learning experiences of East Asian international graduate students in the U.S. The qualitative research study used a narrative analysis approach that collected data from semi-structured interviews. In this proposal, three critical themes will be addressed; (1) classroom differences between East Asian and American culture, (2) role of the instructor, and (3) sociocultural experiences in distance learning. This study pointed out that active communication with instructors is critical to make distance learning effective for East Asian international graduate students in the U.S.
