Exploring Rural School-Based Mental Health Supports: Matrix of Collaborative Action for Resilience in Education Case Study

Fri, April 9, 9:30 to 10:30am EDT (9:30 to 10:30am EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-School/University Collaborative Research Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

Researchers share a case study of the Matrix of Collaborative Action for Resilience in Education (CARE), an innovative school-university-community collaboration initiative aimed to empower and engage students, families, school personnel and community stakeholders to positively influence the lives of students impacted by adverse childhood experiences. Researchers present implementation findings within a rural community, while discussing the importance of cultivating partnerships with community entities. Case study findings support social justice advocacy interventions for educators that may reduce the educational impact of poverty and ongoing mental health issues. Discussion will further detail various efforts to improve access to care and other essential resources for students and families who live in generationally poor rural communities.
