This paper proposes frame genealogy as new method for critical analysis of educational discourse and its influence on U.S. educational policy and practice. Working within critical policy sociology and extending critical policy analysis historically through frame genealogy supports tracing persistence and change of key frames in educational discourse. As an example, I present elements of a genealogical frame analysis of Christian Right educational discourse. In this study, frame analysis is employed in a novel way, extending the scope of frame analysis historically and identifying the roots of contemporary frames in discourse from a past century. Such analysis provides documentation for those who hear echoes of a hateful, kyriarchal (racist, sexist, and classist) past in the educational discourse of the right.
