Diversity in Quantitative Research: Acknowledging and Contextualizing Intersectionality in Psychological Research

Thu, April 8, 12:00 to 1:00pm EDT (12:00 to 1:00pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Professors of Educational Research Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

This lesson guide details a three-part lesson plan to introduce the concept of intersectionality to students studying research methods and/or statistics. We highlight intersectionality as an important concept in educational psychology addressing both diverse populations and the issues of power of privilege that are associated with these identities. The lesson introduces the idea of intersectionality, presents examples in published research that have applied this concept, and asks students to apply intersectionality to a research design of their own.
