The Influence of a Cooperative, Video-Based Reflection Setting on the Development of Reflection-Related Attitudes of Preservice Teachers

Sun, April 11, 4:10 to 5:40pm EDT (4:10 to 5:40pm EDT), Division K, Division K - Section 5 Paper and Symposium Sessions 2

Abstract

The development and improvement of a reflective attitude is one central competency of (prospective) teachers (Kunter et al., 2011). Own teaching videos and foreign teaching videos do offer the opportunity to reflect on teaching processes independent from the pressure to act (Krammer & Reusser, 2005). The present study investigated the effects of collegial reflection on own and foreign teaching videos recorded during a practical term at a German university by ways of a quasi-experimental control-group design. The findings on the change in attitudes towards reflection on teaching and videography among students who participated in the study, indicate a positive change in attitudes towards feedback and videography. Differences were found depending on the used video type for reflection, own or foreign videos.
