This two-year connective ethnography examines EdQuest (pseudonym), a roleplay-based educational community near Boston, Massachusetts. EdQuest’s staff collaborates with youth, ages 7-18, to coauthor fantastic narratives and explore academic content through play. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, EdQuest closed its campus and converted its uniquely in-person pedagogy online. This study explores the affordances and constraints of EdQuest’s new hybrid literacies pedagogy as it pertains to historically minoritized youth.
