College-Level Sex Education Courses: A Systemic Literature Review

Mon, April 12, 11:10am to 12:10pm EDT (11:10am to 12:10pm EDT), Division J, Division J - Section 4 Poster Sessions

Abstract

Understanding college-level sex education course offerings and curriculum can help inform campus policies and the impact on campus culture. Although there is a large amount of research on sexual health programming, there is a need to investigate sex education curriculum on campuses. The researchers conducted a systematic literature review to evaluate the breadth of existing research and found three predominant themes across literature including philosophical and pedagogical considerations, perceived student knowledge and learning, and cultural and Feminist-informed sex education. The discussion serves as an initial conversation addressing the critical need for future research on collegiate sex education curricula.
