In 2018, a group of scholars associated with the Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies (CRES) department at Texas Christian University (TCU) and district leaders from the Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) began a project to develop a K-12 Social Studies curriculum overlay that focused on Latino/a histories and culture(s). This paper is a discussion of the collaborative Latino/a Studies project, including a detailed look at the process by which scholars developed it, the curriculum itself, and our other findings as a result of associated research. This paper draws out implications for interdisciplinary curriculum work done in conjunction with public school districts in creating more culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy.
