A Leadership Framework for a Culture for Learning and Enhanced Collective Teacher Efficacy

Thu, April 8, 3:00 to 4:00pm EDT (3:00 to 4:00pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Leadership for School Improvement Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

As an elementary school principal implementing a leadership framework, I sought to enhance our school’s collaborative processes through my actions. During a two-year improvement journey, the process of implementation and then reflection and feedback led to important adjustments. A schoolwide learner dashboard was developed and has assisted teachers with instructional decisions. Administrators have used the dashboard to allocate teaching supports and resources. A school improvement committee was also established. I learned specific leadership actions for collecting teacher feedback and facilitating inquiry-focused dialogue. Subsequently, the types of evidence teachers discuss expanded, and teams developed formative assessments to meet their specific needs. I also heard and applied feedback, as is critical for leading school change.
