The purpose of this study is to evaluate the promise of Early Language Comprehension Individualized Instruction (ELCII) in improving inference making skills of kindergarteners. One hundred ninety-one students completed the ELCII program, which consists of 20 instructional video modules and a set of 20 transfer read-aloud lessons. Results revealed genre differences in the improvement in inference-making over the course of the ELCII program. Specifically, students only showed growth in inference-making on instructional video modules that conveyed fiction content, whereas students’ did not show any growth on instructional video modules that conveyed informational content.
