In this interview study, we explored how the experience of being suddenly quarantined during a worldwide pandemic shaped preservice teachers’ beliefs (n=20) about their future professional careers in the classroom. We asked preservice teacher candidates to talk about their experiences as they lived through a suddenly imposed quarantine that began midway through the spring 2020 academic semester. Specifically we wanted to know (a) how did they cope, (b) what it was like to be a student and what they learned about virtual learning, and (c) what were their views about their future teaching career and how the pandemic-triggered experiences may have informed those views. Implications for teacher preparation are discussed.
