The voices of individuals of color, especially black men labeled with dis/abilities are too often overlooked in educational and dis/ability studies research. The overrepresentation of black males in special education is no doubt a contributing factor to the school-to-prison pipeline for black males. Using phenomenology and DisCrit, this research hopes to learn about the lived experiences and perspectives on education of a black male labeled with a dis/ability navigating higher education. This research examines how the life history of a black male labeled with a dis/ability and how he makes sense of his schooling experiences, the details of his lived experiences, which led him to pursue college, and the meaning and understanding he made of these experiences.
