Academic Impact of Gear Up for Success Personalized Learning Model (Preliminary Findings)

Abstract

Personalized learning is an approach to customize learning to meet the needs of each learner. Although it has recently gained popularity, the approach is loosely defined and not well understood. The K-12 school district developed a research anchored framework for schoolwide implementation. The Gear Up for Success PL Model was implemented in five schools over three years. The quasi experimental study compared the growth in achievement between students in participating schools and their Virtual Control Records match students from the same district. Results demonstrated statistically significant differences in math growth. However, results did not show statistically significant differences in English/Language Arts growth. The insights from the study provide guidance on implementation and direction for further development of this learning approach.
