Sat, April 10, 10:40am to 12:10pm EDT (10:40am to 12:10pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Science Teaching and Learning Paper and Symposium Sessions

Abstract

STEM teachers are in high demand across the country, especially in rural areas and in high needs schools. The NSF Noyce scholarship program gives funding to universities to provide scholarships and support for STEM teachers. This qualitative case study follows the journey of a first generation, low SES undergraduate student as he journeys through his undergraduate Noyce program experience, enters the teaching field, and as he evolves into a highly respected STEM teacher. This in depth analysis of the key characteristics of the NSF Noyce program and it’s impact on specific students like in this case study is key to designing and creating EPP programs that support the persistence and rentention of high quality STEM teachers nationwide.
