The edTPA has been a subject of debate in teacher education, with many researchers criticizing the assessment in terms of equity, stress to student teachers, and detracting from the student teaching experience. But, once they are in the classroom, how do teachers perceive the value of the edTPA experience? This qualitative case study of 12 math and science teachers teaching in high-need schools takes a social constructivist lens to examining the teachers’ views of the edTPA experience. Through analysis of interview transcripts and reflections, we found that our teachers, who all scored above average, found elements of the edTPA Task III to be most useful. We will discuss these findings and the implications for teacher educators.
