Thu, April 8, 3:00 to 4:00pm EDT (3:00 to 4:00pm EDT), Division K, Division K - Section 9 Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

Recent teacher certification changes have increased the appeal of completing additional teaching certification endorsements for preservice teachers. English as a second language (ESL) teaching endorsement is encouraged, sometimes mandatory for those who teach in U.S. public schools to attain. This study analyzes how the ESL teacher preparation standards (ESLTPS) of one midwestern state and the ESL teacher endorsement program of a local university are aligned by reviewing course syllabi and interviews from individuals in the three departments that supervise the courses required for the ESL certification endorsement. The intention of this study is to increase awareness of what is required for effective ESL teacher certification program development.
