Learning can be done in a community, where individuals are able to learn from each other through observation, imitation, and modeling. Creating learning communities where collective engagement harnesses the power of the value-add, of each individual, benefits the individual and the community. The Community of Learners (CoL) approach encourages discovering inherent interest in activities while emphasizing learning responsibility for one’s own social and academic choices.
This paper explored and revealed how a month-long lesson plan block learning model, within an existing CoL model, was used to address the emergent academic, social and socio-emotional needs of 16 adolescent students (Learners), who transitioned to a virtual CoL environment with their teacher (Guide) during the 2020 global pandemic lockdown.
