Development of the Holistic Wellness Assessment Short Form

Thu, April 8, 5:00 to 6:00pm EDT (5:00 to 6:00pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Holistic Education Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

The objective of this study was to develop a short form of the Holistic Wellness Assessment (HWA) for classroom and clinical use. Data were collected from 485 undergraduate college students using the original 160-item HWA instrument. Ordinary least squares regression was used to find the best 4-item subset for each HWA factor after which were examined statistically, psychometrically, and for item content. This resulted in a 32-item HWA short form with high internal reliability and validity. Correlation between the original and short form scales ranged from 0.88 to 0.97. Confirmatory factor analysis established that the 32-item HWA short form adequately captured the original factorial structure. The 32-item HWA Short Form will be useful for clinical screening and classroom purposes.
