The purpose of this paper is to provide a procedure for testing the polarity and disagreement of single Likert-type items, and to illustrate, given a strong effect, how powerful the test is. New alternatives for testing disagreement and effect size estimates are also offered. As the necessary multinomial calculations are intensive, a spreadsheet for calculation is also provided. Small sample size examples are offered.
