The purpose of this longitudinal mixed-methods study is to gain a robust perspective on the activities and outcomes associated with participation in the “College Scholars” Program, a dual enrollment program for seniors attending public high schools in a large urban city in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. The objectives of this study are threefold: (1) to inform the design and implementation of dual enrollment programs as a model for facilitating students’ transition from secondary to postsecondary education and supporting their subsequent success in college; (2) to describe the impact of participation in dual enrollment programs on student outcomes; and (3) to describe the development of students’ attitudes, motivations, and identities as emerging college students.
