This literature review provides a synthesis of 30 empirical research on digital literacy practices of transnational youth published from 2009 to 2019. The review of research indicates that transnational youth leverage a plethora of digital tools to maintain connectedness across borders, construct identity, affiliation, and social network in transnational contexts, engage in critical media literacy, participate in online affinity groups in transnational environments, and seek information from diverse sources. Further, how the insights from these studies inform educators about effectively teaching transnational youth are highlighted. The goal of this paper is to take a step to advance research in this direction by reviewing what has been learned and offering directions for future work.
