In the current political context, the topic of displaced populations and immigration policies are ever relevant to students’ lives. This study analyzes whether teachers in a master’s-level education course, entitled Culturally Responsive Teaching, are practicing ethical research with culturally and linguistically diverse students, families, and communities. In the course, the final assignment requires the teachers taking the course interview an emergent bilingual (1) student, (2) family member, and (3) community member in order to create a Local Community Analysis and year-long Action Plan for their classroom and school. Through analysis of post-course teacher-participant interviews, this study hopes to further how teachers may encompass more humanizing research practices with culturally and linguistically diverse communities.
