Educational reforms in past years in Ghana have not given much priority to head teachers leadership development before being appointed into school leadership in the basic schools. This study therefore sought to investigate how head teachers prepare themselves to take up the head teachers’ position and the impact of this preparation on the effective performance of their leadership roles. This study employed the concurrent nested mixed- method design. Semi- structured interview guide and questionnaires were employed in gathering both qualitative and quantitative data respectively from basic school head teachers and teachers in the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipality. Qualitative data collected would be analyzed using thematic analysis whereas quantitative data collected would be analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics.
