Raising Minoritized Middle Schoolers' A.I. Career Awareness and Adaptability: Findings From Two Online Summer Camps

Sat, April 10, 10:40 to 11:40am EDT (10:40 to 11:40am EDT), Division C, Division C - Section 1e: Engineering and Computer Science Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

Adopting lenses of person-environment fit (Holland, 1997), social-cognitive (Lent, 2013), and constructivist (Savickas, 2013) perspectives, we developed and pilot tested a 6-hour career development curriculum embedded in two consecutive online summer camps with 62 students, the majority of whom were students of color, in the Northeast US. Analysis of quantitative and qualitative data showed increases in student’s career awareness and adaptability, providing researchers and practitioners important information on how to promote the integration of AI education and career development for young adolescents.
