What Is Open Pedagogy? Exploring the Dialogues

Thu, April 8, 3:00 to 4:00pm EDT (3:00 to 4:00pm EDT), SIG Sessions, SIG-Educational Change Roundtable Sessions

Abstract

As OER has gained momentum, some of its ardent supporters have argued that it should be more than about free books or resources. Advocates for this view often use the general umbrella term, Open Pedagogy as the next step in the evaluation of OER. But for those who are interested in practicing Open Pedagogy, what exactly does that mean? What processes, steps and/or benefits does that entail? How do they make it happen? In this paper, we explore the different understanding around the term. Doing this requires building a solid research foundation of theoretical frameworks and methods. We see this article as a step towards advocating for dialogues that can strive towards this goal.
