This paper utilizes autocriticism (Uhrmacher et al., 2017) to render an institutional critique to an attempt to plant a community garden based on planting traditions of the Mandan, Hadasta, and Arikara Nation. Attention to care and adaptability emerged as themes in the initial findings. Findings also conceal the research and partnerships that led up to the community garden. Institutional critique has implications for developing place-based and eco-minded learning experiences for local communities.
